Horses

Shania Austin

10/13/11

When I ride my horse all my troubles go away. It’s also a stress reliever for me and other people.  I usually ride my horses on Sundays from 2 to 4. We call it horse practice. We learn how to rope, separate cattle, and basic stuff that every horse rider should know.

When we started learning how to rope, we started with the basics.  First we started swinging ropes off our horses. Then we started tracking (or following the cattle) with the horses.  Finally, we got to the point where we could swing, track, and rope the cattle.  We just gradually started getting faster and faster.

Our parents had taught us how to separate cattle by showing us once then they let us go ahead and try to separate them by ourselves.  When we were having trouble, they told us what to do.  We finally got better. Now we could go into a lot of cattle and separate cattle by ourselves.

The people that come to horse practice first started out with the basics. The basics are what every horse rider should learn. You start out with going forward. Then stopping and backing the horse up. You want to be in control the whole time you are riding a horse. It helps to be in control.

It can be fun riding a horse, if you know how to ride and control the horse you are riding.  If you don’t have control then it can be very dangerous, so just relax, and have fun and everything will be just fine!
