Call of Duty: World at War

World at War is an amazing game for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles. In my opinion, it is the reason that the Call of Duty series really took off. It can be somewhat historic because it takes place during World War II and places the player on the side of the United States and our allies. The player views the screen as a first person shooter type game that features a HUD (Heads Up Display). The campaign starts the player off as Pvt. Miller of the United States Marine Corps. and sets the player into the game with a rude awakening as P.O.W. of Imperial Army forces. United States Marines come to rescue P.O.W.s and destroy the Imperial Army’s base on Makin Island.

The remainder of the campaign mode switches between roles as a soldier in the United States Marine Corps. or as a soldier in the Soviet Union. World at War is the fifth installment of the Call of Duty series and was released on November 11 of 2008.

I think World at War is the reason Call of Duty was successful because it is the first game in the Call of Duty series to feature the new game mode Nazi Zombies. Nazi Zombies consists of 2-4 players on Xbox Live or the Playstation Network and places the players in a fight against zombies where the players survive endless rounds of zombies where the player gains points by downing zombies and repairing boards over windows the zombies can get through. After accumulating enough points, the player can purchase doors into new rooms or purchase new weapons off the wall or from the mystery box, a rectangular box that gives the player a random weapon of any type or power.

The most popular game mode is a rank earning mode simply called multiplayer where you face other teams of playing characters trying to win in whatever game mode you select, such as Search and Destroy, Headquarter, Team Deathmatch (Mercenary or Regular), Free-For-All, and War.
