What I like about living in Wayne County

   There are three main things I like about living in Wayne County.  I like the nice people who will help a neighbor if they need it and will always be there for you in times of need.  I like how the towns are small and you can almost walk anywhere you need to go in a very short amount of time.  The last thing I love about Wayne County is that it is where I grew up.  This is where all of my friends are and without them, I wouldn’t be happy living in Wayne County.

  These are the three main reasons I like Wayne County.  Even though it’s small, there is a lot to do if you have a big imagination.  I think people should be happy they live in Wayne County because of these reasons.

There are three reasons why I love to go to rock concerts. The first reason is that I like the show that some of my favorite bands put on and the theatrics that go with the show. The second reason is the people that are at the concerts. The people are easy to get along with and they like the same music that I do. The last reason I love going to concerts is the epic MOSH pits so u can get all your anger and frustration out during a five minute song. These are the three main reasons I like going to concerts. I believe that everybody who loves music rather it rock or not I think everyone should go to a rock concert at least once in there lives. So go out and see a rock concert!

Riley Darrah - Wayne Community

In Wayne Community, the best thing is the people. It is amazing how the most random comment brightens anyone’s day. They are generous, loving, and they care what happens in their community. Most people will help you without even asking. Even though people know everything about everybody, they can keep you out of trouble. If you are doing something wrong, they will let you know what they think and what is on their minds. They won’t just let you keep doing something wrong. They will correct you, and hope you learn from your mistake.

The second thing I like about Wayne Community is that most of my family lives here. They know everything about you; they strive to make you happy.  They will do whatever they can to play a game with you or just hang out with you. They love you for you, and love it when you come around.  Friends are also a good part of Wayne Community. They are just like family. I may not love Wayne Community, but it is an okay place to live.

My first day in Wayne Community, I was very shy and didn’t know what to expect. However, I soon realized that everyone here is very friendly and like a family. Everyone knows everyone, unlike the community I used to live in, where you barely knew your neighbors. Wayne Community is also very safe. For example, you could go on a walk around town and not have to worry that anyone will hurt you. Although there aren’t many things to do, there is enough to keep you occupied – like the movie theater, the park, and the pool.

            Another thing I like about Wayne Community is the school. The reason my family came here was to get away from a big, unsafe Tulsa public school. Here, the schools are safer and have much smaller classroom sizes. Overall, I think Wayne Community is a safe, friendly community.

            Corydon is so great because there is nothing.  No one is around and when they are everyone seems happy to see each other. It seems that everyone has grown up together and no one leaves.  You learn everyone’s face because there isn’t that many around. I love being able to walk across the street without having to worry that some woman late for her desk job runs the light. Here you sit on your porch and only five cars could go by in a whole day instead of 1,000 cars by the hour.

            In the night, you can see stars and the next town's lights 30 miles away.  The crickets chirp and the frogs make their sounds.  The wind really blows here not like in the city where the buildings block it out. Corydon isn’t so bad when you enjoy the little things that make life simple.  For instance, the nothingness that can make you bored can suddenly become a mudslinging fight in a cornfield or a snowboarding adventure in the winter.

   In Wayne, there aren’t many people that you don’t know or have never seen.  There are not that many crimes in Wayne.  Wayne is a very small town and has very small schools.  We don’t have many people play sports, but we aren’t too bad.  Everyone works very hard at the sports they play.  We have Old Settlers, Allerton World Fair, and the Wayne County Fair in which most people attend.  At Old Settlers, there are bands, carnival rides, and other fun things to do.  At the fair, there are many fun things to do like the demo derby and the truck pull.  There are also many afternoon activities to do.  At the Allerton World Fair, there’s a big parade and many fun games to play.  I think that Wayne Community is a safe and all right place to live.

What do I like about Wayne County? I love that I can walk outside, and don’t have to worry about not being safe. Wayne County is a great place to have a family. Being a small community isn’t always a bad thing.

People in a small community seem to look out for each other better than in a bigger city.  Everyone knows everyone. People say that, “everyone knows my business and it’s so boring here”.  Sometimes knowing everyone’s business isn’t a bad thing, because it will more likely keep you out of trouble.  When you know news travels fast then possibly you will second guess your actions.

Crime is hardly ever an issue here. Just because we aren’t the richest and the most fun community, at least it isn’t one filled with crime and violence.  Wayne County is what you make of it; so next time you’re bored, enjoy and embrace the positive things that are here.

             I like several things about Wayne Community.  One of them is that it’s a small community and most people know each other. So it makes for a more familiar environment, rather than if you’re in a huge city and you see new people every day just outside your door.

            Another is that parents might feel safer to let their kids roam around and not fear they’re going to be in danger, as they might if we were in a bigger community.  It’s also nice that it’s not crowded like some places are. For example the houses in town actually have room between them. I live in the country so I have a lot of space, so I don’t have that problem. I would like to try living in town though, just to see how it was.

                What I like the most about Wayne Community is growing up in a small town.  I’ve lived in Allerton my whole life and I like living in a community where everyone knows everyone. If you really think about it, our community is like a family compared to the big cities where no one cares about other people. You always do what’s good for your family and the community will support your decisions. My parents have raised me to do whatever I can to help the community because in the end, they will help you. But there are always some down sides to living in such a small, uptight community. Everyone eventually finds out things, even if you didn’t intend for anyone to know. Living in a small community means family-oriented activities and fun, and that’s what I like most about Wayne Community.

            I like Wayne Community because of the benefits it has since it’s small.  Everyone knows everyone personally or at least knows of them. We also have small movie theaters that are pretty cheap compared to bigger places. Wayne Community is a pretty quiet place and it’s also really safe. You could go on a walk by yourself and not worry about anything bad happening to you. You could play jump rope in the street and not worry about being plowed by a car. You could also sit in your backyard and not have a lot of noise to ignore. No one really minds what you do, as long as you aren’t being disruptive or doing anything wrong. There are also a lot of little places in Wayne Community that can keep you occupied, like the pool, the park, the museum, or even the movie theater. Wayne Community may be small, but being small isn’t always a bad thing!

Most community members have known each other since childhood, so everyone is comfortable with one another.  There is friendliness and kindness in our community. Everybody helps make our community a happy place to live. I like living in a small town because it’s nice.  Some people might complain about it, but there is always someone to talk to or something to do.  Some of the things to do are go to the movies, go to the park, grocery shop, and eat out.  I like how a person could be walking down the street and see someone and they end up talking for twenty minutes.

Surprisingly there is not a lot of drama. Nobody really wants to start any. There is gossip but not too much of that either.  We do pretty well about keeping our noses out of other people’s business. Even though everybody knows everybody’s business we don’t make a big uproar about it. That is what I like about our community.

 I like that it’s small and not much goes on.  I don’t know what I would do in the city.  In Wayne County pretty much everybody knows each other and I like that.  I like our small school because there are not a lot of kids in it, but we have a lot for the size of our community.  About two thousand people live in Wayne County.  Again, this is not a whole lot but there’s not a lot to do in Wayne except hunting, sports, and work.  I’ve lived in Wayne County my whole life and not much has changed.  It is really pretty much the same old place since I was born.  We have two gas stations, a couple of restaurants, a courthouse, some stores, and a few banks.  My favorite place to eat in Wayne is Ludlow's.  Well that’s my favorite thing about Wayne County.

Conoco Bob was a guy that always came to Conoco and ate lunch and dinner.  Sometimes he would just come in and talk to people.  It didn’t matter if it was 100 degrees or negative ten, he would always be in his chair with a newspaper, bowl of ice cream, and his cup of coffee.  He was one of the nicest people I have ever met.  It didn’t matter what he was doing; it seemed like he always went out of his way to talk to you about something.  Everybody hears stories about Conoco Bob and really no one knew if they were true, but then when he would tell the same stories you just had to believe him.  So like I said before he was one of the nicest guys I have ever met and he will be missed greatly.  He will continue to be an inspiration to the community as we reminisce in the amazing stories coming from the mouth of a very wise man.

Katie Reed - What do I like about Wayne Community you may ask?

I love all the rainbows and butterflies and all the friendly people. I love that our little hometown has a Taco Bell right down the road! Me and my thug Adrien Tatyana go creepin’ around and buy all the bouncy balls out of the machines at Tar-ghetto(target)!  Everyday I ride my pet dino to school. His name is Roger and he’s purple with glow-in-the-dark polka dots.

Everyday at 2 pm it rains waffles, and every Monday we go to the clubs. The AH-mazing club we have here is called The Neon Monkeys; it is awesome. Everyone comes to Corydon because they love Corndog Thursday. We also have a dance crew that won America’s Best Dance Crew, and we call ourselves The Zombie Panda Bears.  We are also well known for our scooters that have NOS and our amazing personalities.  That’s what I LOVVVEEEE about Wayne Community. ☺

The community of Wayne County, Iowa is a quiet one with teachers who have small enough classes to care for each individual student’s needs and their personal learning styles.  Each of the classes offered has a teacher certified to teach that subject and a vast knowledge of that subject.  The band program has a major standing in our community and is one of our best assets.  We are small enough for the individual learning but big enough for a wide variety of classes.

            As for the community of Corydon, I do not live in town so I can’t say much about it.  I know that we have a theater and a few small businesses.  We are a farming community and most of our students go back to their roots as farmers.  We are a group of people who are trustworthy and respectable and we share a friendship with our fellowman.

Zach Davis - What is good about Corydon?

 Well, it is a small quiet town with plenty of jobs and other opportunities for people to choose from, as well as little crime.  This makes it a good place to live and raise a family.  Corydon also has a good school with plenty of classes to take that relate to some job opportunities that are available in factories and businesses around the area.

Corydon also has a very nice hospital and rehabilitation center with great doctors and warm friendly staff dedicated to your health.  It also has nice campgrounds and parks.  Corydon also has a swimming pool, tennis court, and basketball court.

We also have a very nice museum called the Prairie Tails Museum with lots of stuff about the Mormon Trail as well as information about Wayne. Corydon also has elk in a pen near the reservoir that you can go see.

            What do I like about Wayne Community? I like that it’s small and that people don’t bother you.  I also like that you don’t have to worry about anything or about your safety.  You also get lots of freedom to ride bikes and do other activities in the community.

            All of the people are very nice. In the school, we have lots of boys and girls sports to play.  The teachers are all very nice, too.  They will help you and explain to you if you have a problem.  All together, I think this is a great community with a great school system.  We also have a great museum in our county.  There are so many artifacts that they have found in the community.  Another great thing in our community is that we have great restaurants.

                The best part of Wayne County, to me, is the people. Here, people went to school together, grew up together, and know each other. This makes everyone comfortable around others and makes living a lot simpler. They also make everyone feel welcome. Whether you lived here your whole life or just moved here last year, they let you in and make you feel part of the Community, which to me, is very important.

Another important part of Wayne County is the family. I enjoy living in Wayne because I have family here and it’s nice to be able to walk to their house and see them. This whole town is full of loving families so no matter where you go you could find someone related to your best friend, or meet someone from your parents work, or an old friend of one of your relatives. 

It is a very safe and connected community and that, to me, is the most important and best part about Wayne County.

Many people have asked me what do I like most about Wayne Community. I really don’t even have to think for an answer for that question because it just comes to me instantly.  Wayne Community is a close community. Everybody knows everyone. You might say well if you get in trouble everyone’s going to know about it. Well yes that maybe true, but think about all the people that could help you stay out of trouble.  You don’t have to worry about crime here. In bigger cities, you are constantly worried that someone could rob you, but in Wayne, we don’t have to worry about it.                                     

You don’t have to worry about watching young children every single second.  Everyone here has a helping hand, and can give you advice if you need it.  In Wayne Community we all care about each other and do what we can for each other. I personally love living in Wayne because I can go places and do things without having a parent worry that something might happen to me.                                                             

If you want some place quiet then Wayne Community is where you need to go.  Here, we lend a helping hand and keep things safe.  Wayne community has wonderful people and is a great place to live.

             I think Wayne community is a great place to raise a family. There might not be a lot of jobs here but it’s a very nice and appropriate place to be. If you need help with anything or if you are going through a hard time you are probably able to find someone who will be happy to help.

            The whole community knows each other so if you are moving into Wayne you will meet friends fast. The schools are not very big so everyone knows everyone in their classes. Sometimes that can be a bad thing because rumors fly fast, but if you stay away from all of the drama you will be just fine.

 In the summers you can find something to do like going to the new pool, or on the square they have little events once a week. It’s very fun to go to things around Wayne and it doesn’t cost much at all.

Cody Bertelsen - Wayne’s Entertainment

                Wayne County is a great place to be while they’re having the fair.  There are many fun things you can be doing at the fair like walking around and socializing with some friends or you can stroll around and look at the interesting things you can buy for a low price.  There are barns you walk through to look at livestock and see the prizes and awards people won for their horses, pigs, and sheep.  Also, there are some very fun events you can watch or be involved in like last year’s demolition derby.  Some of Wayne’s high school students took part in it.

                Other events take place like the tractor pulls, which also includes trucks.  This year the fair had a very entertaining rodeo.  If you are ever down by the horse barn, check out some of the events they do like barrel racing, and this year they had a great big soccer ball and they played soccer with their horses.  Also, they have very talented and cool people.  For instance, I got to watch a hypnotist make people do the things that they would never do in public like start singing very oddly.  So if you’re ever around for the fair make sure you check out all of the fun-filled events because you don’t know what you’re missing.

What do I like about Wayne Community? Most people think Wayne community is a place with nothing to do and nowhere to go, but I think Wayne Community is a great place to find a lot of friends in a small town. I believe Wayne County is the perfect place to just be with friends and family. What I like most about Wayne Community is that I can walk around the whole town and see most of my friends. I also like Wayne because it’s a small community where everyone knows each other and cares about them, too.

        There are many different places to go and eat. My favorite is the Breadeaux Pizza. My friends and I like to sit down and eat and just have fun. We don’t have to worry about anything because we know we are safe. This is the type of community that you never really hear anything bad about it, and that is the kind of place I like to be in.

Evan Sinclair - What’s Great with Wayne?

Wayne Community is great because of the opportunities in sports. When the Junior and Senior classes are barely big enough to fill the Varsity teams, it allows opportunities for Freshmen and Sophomores to play on the teams. It is this small community that allows these privileges for the younger students. I was able to play varsity football the last half of the season because of the injuries and the small number of people. Other freshman and sophomores were also able to play because of the small number of people.

Other privileges to living in Wayne Community include the opportunity to know everyone in the school because of the fewer number of people. This allows for closer relationships because there are fewer people to get to know. This means these friendships are more likely to continue into the future and to maintain lifelong friends we have known since kindergarten.

            Wayne community is more than just ordinary community. It is full of friendly people and a lot of them are related somehow. There aren’t many secrets in this town. Once someone knows, everybody knows.          

            I like the school; it is full of great teachers and great friends. Everybody is so welcoming to new students. It almost feels like you were never a new kid at the school. The community is a great support when it comes to sports. They come to watch our games. Even though we aren’t the best at everything we do.

            Being a smaller community means we can be closer to everybody, which during school that helps. So if you ever need some help with anything they are willing to help you in no time. I think a smaller community is better, because it is easier to get along through your life knowing that there are people that are great friends here.

I like Wayne Community because I have great friends here. I can walk a couple of blocks away from Conoco and be at one of my friend’s house. There are a lot of things to do here; we can go to the basketball court, ride our bikes around town, or just walk around and hang out.

            There are also some restaurants that we can go to and talk, eat, or just hang out. I don’t go to the movie theater in Corydon very often, but when I do, I am usually with my friends hoping that the movie will be good. The main spot where I spend most of my time is at Conoco, where most of my friends go after school. Our school has an amazing gym where we can go in every now and then and play basketball with whomever is in there.

Laticia Stewart - Things to See in Wayne County

One thing I like about Wayne County, Iowa is that it is not crowded. There is not a whole bunch of people. So you feel safer than you would in a bigger town.  It’s a good place for kids to grow up. Our county is quiet and mostly peaceful.

Another thing is that there are so many beautiful places to drive around and see. We have Bobwhite State Park, which has some cool trails. You can also go fishing, see geese, and go out on the lake in a canoe. You can hear so many different animal sounds like frogs, quail, pheasant, coyotes, and more.

We also have roads that have pretty scenery and roads that you can walk down and find cool rocks. At the Corydon Lake Park we have elk that we can observe. We have a museum that have many different exhibits like, the Mormon Trail, Native American artifacts, WW2, and farm machinery.

What I like about Wayne Community is that it is small and that everyone knows someone.  I also like that there are nice people and the teachers at the school will help you when you need it.  But I like the school even though some people don’t really like it.  What I like about the school is that it isn’t big and the classes are small.  Also, the town is clean and it tends to stay clean.  There are very nice people in this community, especially in my neighborhood.  I think that when the community is this small then there should be a lot more things to do then just going to school, hanging out at Conoco, and staying at home and doing nothing.   I haven’t been in this community for very long so I don’t know what there is to like or not to like.

            One thing that I like about Wayne Community is that most of my family lives here.  Also, my friends are mostly here unless they have moved away.  My friends and I walk everywhere it seems like. Most of the time, it is safe.  Probably like 99.9% of the time anyway. Then when we get hungry, we go to Hy-Vee and get pie and a big drink of tea.  

            I like how there aren’t that many stores here.  Some people probably don’t agree though.  But that’s ok. It can be kind of hard to find something to do when everybody is busy with something else.  I do like living in a small community even if it does get kind of boring at times. I would rather live here than in a HUGE city.

            My family that lives here is my parents, grandparents, great-aunts, and uncles and then I have second and third cousins that live here.  Other relatives live other places or close to here.  Yeah, that’s what I like about Wayne Community.

When I was first asked to think of my favorite things about Wayne County, I laughed.  I don’t really like much about it.  Wayne County is really small, and all there is here is a bunch of farmers, old people, and teenagers.  I’m not bashing Wayne County but there aren’t many opportunities.  This place is pretty boring, but it is home. 

There are some things that are okay in Wayne County.  Wayne County is a safe place to raise children.  We have a good school system.  There is a movie theater!! But, it only opens on the weekends.

I like small places and Wayne is pretty small.  A lot of my family lives around this area so we kind of stay here because of that.  Most of my friends live around here.  I guess Wayne County is not that bad.  It’s okay.  I just wish that there were more people, opportunities, and things to do for people my age.

What do I like about Wayne County? Well, I like that it’s a small community where you know everyone and you never see strangers around town. Being in a small community also helps because parents don’t have to worry as much about their kids as you would if you lived in a large city. 

Another thing is that knowing everyone makes gossip spread faster.  So say you got in trouble, people would know about it almost instantly. This could possibly stop some kids from doing things that they shouldn’t do. Living in a small community also makes everyone really close with everyone, so it’s like living with a large family.   This is a good thing because you have lots of support in the decisions you make, and people are there for you if you ever need advice about something.  I think that living in a small community is good and it’s also a good environment to grow up in.

Emily Bellon - Wayne Community

Many things pop into your head when asked the question, “What do you like most about Wayne community?”  Some may say “I don’t like this place,” but I think that you should look on the positive side.  The best thing is the small community friendship. 

Being in a small community means you know lots of people. This may not always be good though, but for the most part everyone has everyone’s back. You can be involved in so many more activities than if you were in a large community. In a large community you are always worried about whether or not the back door is locked, will my child be okay at home by himself, or who can I talk to.  In a small community, none of these are worries.  You can count on your neighbors to be friends.

Overall, I think that Wayne is a great place to live. It is a very friendly community. If you are here, you never need to worry about not having a friend. So, come to Wayne and enjoy the different way of life in a small friendly community.

Dillon Lain - What Do I Like about Wayne Community?

           My favorite thing about this community is that no matter who you are, or what you do, you will always be welcome here. When you have family close to you it is easier to make a living and get along compared to other places. Some advantages to living in a small town are if you want to go somewhere, you can get there without any stoplights slowing you down.  We are a rural area, so even if you live in town you are still considered a farm kid. Instead of having a mall, we have baseball, football, and crop fields.

           On Friday nights, we don’t have kids out shopping, because we have kids playing a football game behind the cornfield knowing that one day they will be on that field, too.  We might not have a sold out crowd, but almost all of the community members will be there watching through victory or defeat.  So, you can say my favorite thing about this community is that you will always be supported and welcome.

I like this community because it’s full of great people. The people here are nice and about everybody knows everybody else.  That tells you how small this town is. I really like playing sports so that is another good thing about the community. We’re not the greatest in sports, but hopefully we’ll soon get back to the top.  The teachers in our school are nice, and they are good teachers when it comes to instructing the class and giving directions.  I understand most of the instructions the teachers give us.

Some of the other events around the community are:  Old Settlers, Wayne County Fair, Demo Derby, Allerton World Fair, and 3 on 3 tournaments. The stores around here are limited and they are Casey’s, Conoco, Fast Stop, Dollar General, Pamida, Hy-Vee, and Mike’s Guns.  The restaurants are Ludlows, The Lodge, Breadaux, and Betty’s Café.  Our town is small, but the people are nice and everyone is friendly.

I’ve lived in Wayne Community my whole life. I like living here because it is such a small community. Corydon does indeed get boring at times, but you have to find something fun to do.  My favorite thing about living here is that you don’t have to try out for sports.

The school is a good size.  All the kids know each other.  Last year, our softball team went to state.  The community support was great. Our girls’ basketball team isn’t very good, but people still come to watch.  The teachers here can help the students learn better since we have a smaller school.

There are many things to do here. You can swim, golf, and play basketball at our new court. We have gotten many new things in the last couple of years. Our pool is new and so is our basketball court.

I think that Wayne County is a good place to live.  Many things go on in Wayne.  In Corydon, there is Old Settlers and the fair in July.  In Allerton there is the Allerton World Fair. In Humeston, there is Watermelon Days.

At Old Settlers there are about a half dozen rides and a parade.  During the fair, there are the 4-H kids that show many different animals.  They also put on a demolation derby, rodeo, and tractor pulls. People come from miles away to perform in the talent show and there is singing.

At the Allerton World Fair, there is a parade and they have kids and adult games on Main Street.  Watermelon Days in Humeston also has a parade.  On Friday, they have lawnmower pulls.  They have little places that you can buy things at. They have games where you can win things. You can also play bingo if you have money to blow. This is why I like to live in Wayne County.  I don’t ever want to live in a different county.

Last year, I was a pre-freshman.  I got pulled up to play JV and Varsity softball. I started centerfield for varsity.  We were the POI Conference champs. To go to state we had to beat I-35. We beat them 2-0.

At state, we got to stay in our own dorm rooms.  The first team we played was IKM Manning. We beat them 9-0. The second team we played was Fort Dodge Saint Edmonds.  We also beat them 3-0. We were going to the championship game!

We played BCLUW. They went to state last year and won. We knew they were a tough team to beat. We were the home team. The score was 9-0 in the first quarter.  Everyone got down on themselves. We lost the game. However, 2^nd place was still good considering that it was our first year there.

      This experience taught me a lot. It taught me that if you believe in yourself you can do anything. Also, never get down on yourself no matter how far behind you are.

Kimberly Wenger - How do You See Yourself in Twenty Years?

Some people might ask, “What do you see yourself doing in twenty years?”  Well, this is a hard question to answer because I haven’t even been alive for twenty years.  I haven’t even graduated yet; some people would say that they would have a job and have a few or more kids.  To me, that is just normal for someone to think that. 

What kind of job would you have?  This question is what I get asked all of the time.  I would like to be a Vet of some sort.  I have always wanted to be one since I got my second dog.  I would probably have a kid and be married.  But you never know what the future holds.  So, for now, I am a freshman at Wayne Community School, and I am planning my career.  I can’t think about twenty years from now if I am only 14.

Everyone has a favorite sport or activity they participate in. Volleyball is the sport I enjoy playing. It can help you make friends and stay in shape; it’s also a fun way to do so.

Being on a team improves your communication skills and ability to get along with others. Winning a game is a great feeling, especially if you win after a long, tough game. Sportsmanship is a great thing to have when you lose a game. No one likes sore losers.

You play however many matches it takes until one team wins three matches.  So, you always have a chance to redeem yourself if you played poorly.  You need 21 points to win a game, and you have to win by two points.  There are six players on a court; you all have a different job.  Volleyball is a fast-paced team sport.  I would pick it over any other sport any day.
