Kenton Lain - Spring Training

Kenton Lain

“Baseball is America’s favorite pastime.” You have probably heard this one before, and if not I will teach you a little bit about baseball.
Right now Spring Training is getting ready to start, which is preseason. The teams play each other and use almost everyone on the team. The coach is trying to figure out the best combinations to put on the field when the season starts.
Once the season starts the teams play from the beginning of April to the end of September. Not very often do they get days off either. A player has to be willing to be on a baseball field half of the year. If you like baseball as much as I do however, it wouldn’t be a problem.
Iowa does not have a professional baseball team. A lot of people would think about the Iowa Cubs, but the Iowa Cubs are a farm team to the Chicago Cubs. A farm team is where the major leagues send their players until they are ready for the pros. A team can have up to three farm teams, but of different sizes. There is the Major Leagues, the Triple A, Double A, and just plain Single A.
Obviously there are lots of teams to choose from when searching for a favorite team. There are over thirty teams in the Major Leagues, so choose wisely. As Spring Training rolls into the regular season though, there is one thing I will be saying, “GO CUBS GO!”
